Foundation Programs

(formerly Entry Level Trades Training ELTT)

A Foundation Program is a program that offers trades training (in this case in the automotive industry) for those who have finished high school. Lasting from six to eight months, they are offered at post-secondary institutions throughout the Province. The training is not an apprenticeship, but it can help an individual who wants to know more about a trade before committing to an apprenticeship, or one who is having difficulty finding an employer to sponsor them in an apprenticeship. In fact, the completion of a Foundation program can prove advantageous in finding employment and/or an employer who will sponsor an apprentice.

Usually when an individual registers as an apprentice, they will receive credit for the technical training and some of the hours they completed during the Foundation Program.
