AirCare Technician Certification

In this section:

What is an "AirCare Certified Technician"?

For repair shops to be "AirCare certified" they must employ at least one technician who has been AirCare Certified, as well as have the equipment necessary to perform emissions diagnosis and repair.

To become an "AirCare Certified Technician" technicians must first obtain their B.C. Trades Qualification license, then take a written examination that tests their knowledge of vehicle emissions diagnosis and repair. If they past the examination (70% is a passing grade) they receive AirCare Certification for up to five years. The Automotive Training Standards Organization administers the examinations.

Preparation for the Examination

For technicians who have worked in the field for some time, a refresher may be necessary to prepare for the examination. The manual is available online, and careful study of Chapter Seven and Eight will prepare you for the exam. The link for this is:
